Population

The Yakima Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1 increased from 144,971 in 1970 to 243,231 in 2010. That was an increase of 67.8 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 5,264 in 1970 to 41,930 in 2010. That was an increase of 696.5 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 3.6 percent to 17.2 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 44.1 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. In it, natural change (B-D) was the chief factor adding population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D was replaced by NIM as the chief source of added population in all periods.
