The Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ decreased from 815,547 in 1970 to 799,232 in 2010. That was a decrease of 2.0 percent.
The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 12,678 in 1970 to 27,324 in 2010. That was an increase of 115.5 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.6 percent to 3.4 percent.
The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) decreased by 3.9 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Domestic migration (NDM) was negative in all periods and the primary source of population increase in all periods was B-D, although declining over time.
The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the primary source of population increase in the first two periods, but was replaced by NIM in the most recent period.
