The Dalton Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 62,919 in 1970 to 142,227 in 2010. That was an increase of 128.7 percent.
The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 71 in 1970 to 21,785 in 2010. That was an increase of 30578.9 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.1 percent to 15.3 percent.
The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 93.9 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the primary source of population increase in all periods.
The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NIM became the primary factor in population increase in the two most recent periods.
