Population

The Yuma Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1 increased from 60,827 in 1970 to 195,750 in 2010. That was an increase of 221.8 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 4,021 in 1970 to 47,793 in 2010. That was an increase of 1088.6 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 6.6 percent to 24.4 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 160.5 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. In it, natural change (B-D) was the chief factor adding population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NIM replaced B-D as the main source of population increase in all periods.
