Population

The Williamsport Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1 increased from 113,296 in 1970 to 116,108 in 2010. That was an increase of 2.5 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,351 in 1970 to 1,674 in 2010. That was an increase of 23.9 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.2 percent to 1.4 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 2.2 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. In it, natural change (B-D) was the chief factor in adding population in the first two periods, replaced by NIM in the most recent period.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, the same relationship of the factors of population change continued to apply.
