Population

The Waco Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 164,853 in 1970 to 252,705 in 2010. That was an increase of 53.3 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,736 in 1970 to 20,096 in 2010. That was an increase of 1057.6 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.1 percent to 8.0 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 42.6 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the primary factor in population increase in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the primary factor in population increase in the first and last periods, while NIM held that position in the second period.
