Population

The Stockton-Lodi Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 290,208 in 1970 to 685,306 in 2010. That was an increase of 136.1 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 23,950 in 1970 to 155,093 in 2010. That was an increase of 547.6 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 8.3 percent to 22.6 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 99.1 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the primary source of added population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. International migration (NIM) replaced B-D as the primary factor in adding population in all periods.
