Population

The Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 238,682 in 1970 to 375,263 in 2010. That was an increase of 57.2 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,110 in 1970 to 13,761 in 2010. That was an increase of 1139.7 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.5 percent to 3.7 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 52.2 percent.

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the primary factor in added population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the primary factor adding population in all periods.
