Population

The Lima Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ decreased from 111,144 in 1970 to 106,331 in 2010. That was a decrease of 4.3 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,402 in 1970 to 1,716 in 2010. That was an increase of 22.4 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.3 percent to 1.6 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) decreased by 4.7 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the primary source of added population in all periods, although the overall population was decreasing.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the primary source of added population in all periods.
