Population

The Kankakee Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 97,250 in 1970 to 113,449 in 2010. That was an increase of 16.7 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,946 in 1970 to 4,989 in 2010. That was an increase of 156.4 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 2.0 percent to 4.4 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 13.8 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the main source of added population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the primary source of population increase in all periods although nearly equalled in the most recent period.
