Population

The Huntington-Ashland Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 333,472 in 1970 to 364,906 in 2010. That was an increase of 9.4 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 1,498 in 1970 to 3,763 in 2010. That was an increase of 151.2 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.4 percent to 1.0 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 8.8 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the principal factor adding population in the first two periods replaced by NIM in the most recent period.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the main factor adding population in the first period and NIM in the two most recent periods (the sole factor in the most recent period).
