The Hattiesburg Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 82,123 in 1970 to 142,842 in 2010. That was an increase of 73.9 percent.
The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 277 in 1970 to 3,340 in 2010. That was an increase of 786.1 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.3 percent to 2.3 percent.
The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 70.4 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Domestic migration (NDM) was the primary factor in population increase in the first two periods, and B-D had that role in the most recent period.
The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, the relationship of the factors in adding population did not change.
