Population

The Gadsden Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 94,144 in 1970 to 104,462 in 2010. That was an increase of 11.0 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 246 in 1970 to 1,350 in 2010. That was an increase of 448.8 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.3 percent to 1.3 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 9.8 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) and domestic migration (NDM) added the most population in the first period, while that shifted to NIM in the two most recent periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, the pattern remained the same.
