Population

The Flagstaff Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 48,326 in 1970 to 134,418 in 2010. That was an increase of 178.1 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 882 in 1970 to 7,076 in 2010. That was an increase of 702.3 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.8 percent to 5.3 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 168.4 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the major factor adding population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the primary factor adding population in all periods.
