Population

The Eugene-Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 213,358 in 1970 to 351,715 in 2010. That was an increase of 64.8 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 4,938 in 1970 to 20,862 in 2010. That was an increase of 322.5 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 2.3 percent to 5.9 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 58.7 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Domestic migration (NDM) was the major factor in population increase in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, NIM replaced NDM as the major factor in population increase in the most recent period..
