The Chambersburg-Waynesboro Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 100,833 in 1970 to 149,834 in 2010. That was an increase of 48.6 percent.
The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 827 in 1970 to 5,162 in 2010. That was an increase of 524.2 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.8 percent to 3.4 percent.
The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 44.7 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Domestic migration (NDM) was the primary source of population increase in the first and second periods, and that was due to B-D in the most recent period.
The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, the same relative roles of the three factors in adding population continued.
