Augusta-Richmond County, GA-SC Metro Area Immigration

Population

The Augusta-Richmond County Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 330,905 in 1970 to 544,180 in 2010. That was an increase of 64.5 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 3,697 in 1970 to 21,844 in 2010. That was an increase of 543.0 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 1.0 percent to 4.0 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 59.5 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the principal factor adding population in all periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the primary factor in population increase in all periods.
