Population

The Anniston-Oxford-Jacksonville, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 103,092 in 1970 to 118,510 in 2010. That was an increase of 15.0 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 579 in 1970 to 3,240 in 2010. That was an increase of 459.6 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.6 percent to 2.7 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 12.4 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) accounted for the largest share of population increase in the first two periods, and NIM was the only factor adding population in the most recent period.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, B-D remained the main source of population increase in the first period, and NIM was the main source adding population in the second period and he sole source in the most recen period.
